How our academics are building a brighter future: Dr Nardine Alnemr
This is a shared journey that welcomes anyone who wants to make the world a better place. Meet Dr Nardine Alnemr from Murdoch’s School of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences (HASS).
For Dr Nardine Alnemr, lecturer at the School of HASS and Fellow of the Indo-Pacific Research Centre, education is key.
What is a university for? Through living, learning, experimenting, and thinking together, university life allows us to forge a brighter future,” says Dr Alnemr.
Established as the second university in WA, Murdoch has always been associated with social justice and inclusion, providing pathways to provide an education for people who had previously been excluded, which can be seen even today through our Strategy; ‘Nagla Kwop Biddi’ which is Noongar for Building a Brighter Future Together.
“Students in politics, social sciences, and humanities more generally learn a lot about what this collective power means and its impact. In the wider scheme of things, this training in social sciences allows students to identify harms as well as pathways for potential remedy.”
Dr Alnemr joined Murdoch University in 2024 and has been working on designing and delivering units that engage students in thinking about the future, introducing them to ways to make desirable changes, while also working on a variety of research endeavours.
Learning to think critically and use analytical reasoning to solve complex problems are skills that are highly regarded by a range of professions and ensure our graduates are ready for a range of career opportunities.
As of recently, my research is more focused on exploring issues in technology and how these issues change, inform or shape aspirations for politics in the future.”
