Studying a Master of Food Science will give you the opportunity to build on the skills you’ve learnt in your undergraduate degree and up skill with professional training in food safety, food engineering, food microbiology, nutrition, food chemistry and food product design and development.

State-of-the-art facilities

The new Master of Food Science (Industry Practice) will be offered at Murdoch from Semester 2, 2024 and will provide students the opportunity to expand their knowledge, explore new production processes, improve food systems and conduct research relevant to the food industry.

Murdoch School for Medical, Molecular and Forensic Sciences, Head of School, Associate Professor Wayne Greene, said the new course was developed to address the growing demand for food professionals and give graduates a competitive edge in the workforce.

“Making use of the new Murdoch University Food Centre, part of the Food Innovation Precinct of Western Australia (FIPWA), the Master of Food Science has been structured to maximise food industry learning and exposure to industry partners,” he said.

Opened in 2023, the Murdoch University Food Centre connects university to industry and promotes research that advances knowledge in food composition, sensory attributes and nutritional profiles with Murdoch students and scientists, located in the heart of the innovation precinct in the Peel region.

If you think you’d like to pursue further postgraduate training, the Master of Food Science (Industry Practice and Innovation) will see you deliver a substantial, original, collaborative piece of research with industry.

For food industry professionals the Graduate Diploma in Food Science, and the Graduate Certificate in Food Science will give you a suite of theoretical and practical skills to help you get ahead.

Whichever course you choose, you will develop your professional skills with a focus on hands-on techniques and connection with industry. Plus, if you're a domestic student you may be eligible for support from the Australian Government through Commonwealth supported places.
