What to expect from university

High school is finished, you’re looking towards the future and you’re wondering which path to explore first.

University might be on the cards and if it is, there’s a few things you should expect from your time at uni (Hint: getting a job once you graduate is one of them).

It won’t be like high school

Whether you loved high school or loathed it, uni is different. From choosing what to study, to being free to come and go from campus as you please, uni is a completely new experience. That’s why it’s important to find the place where you’re supported to find your own niche so you can make the most of everything on offer.

Unsure exactly what your niche might be? No problem – we’re flexible and provide opportunities for you to broaden your qualifications and choice of careers with a double major or combined degree.

As well as flexibility, you should also expect the opportunity to participate in programs that’ll help you to gain extra skills and knowledge, such as our unique MasterClass program. For high achieving students, MasterClass gives undergraduate students the chance to complete a Graduate Certificate in Business Administration while studying for their bachelor degree. So you could finish uni with two qualifications, which can only be a good thing for your career prospects!

Practical experiences and hands-on learning

We won’t tell you what to think or how to learn – instead we give you the opportunities to experience the workforce as part of your degree. Our Work Integrated Learning program gives you the chance to gain valuable experience and hands-on skills through industry placements, work placements or work simulations.

Our campus facilities are another way we help our students to gain skills and experience that employers are looking for. As a uni student, you should expect that you’ll have access to real-world equipment and resources – it’s another way you can set yourself up to graduate confident and ready to take on your new career.

The grand final – graduation and beyond

Graduation ceremonies really are something special – all the hard work and experiences gathered along the way pay off as you join your uni friends and family to celebrate. Students put in a lot of time and effort into achieving their degree, so they’re right to expect that their graduation ceremony is a celebration and not just a formality.

We don’t just hand you your certificate. Instead, we turn Bush Court into a hub of celebration for the summer ceremonies, where our graduates and their families celebrate under the stars. In the cooler months, our graduates benefit from our partnership with RAC Arena as we put our students on centre stage in one of Perth’s most impressive venues. Graduating from Murdoch might feel like a long way off right now, but if you’d like a glimpse into what to expect, check out this video from our graduating class of 2018.

What’s an even bigger pay off than graduating? Getting your first professional job! The 2018 Graduate Outcomes Survey revealed that 96.7 per cent of our undergraduates were in jobs three years after graduating. We’re so proud that our students graduate as critical thinkers who’re truly prepared for their future careers and ready to make an impact in the world.

So your time at uni really is an investment in your future – in your future career, your future friendships and the future life lessons you’ll learn along the way. You really shouldn’t expect anything less. Start your journey to Murdoch today.
