Wage remediation for professional casual employees

Murdoch University Chancellery Building

Murdoch University is committed to ensuring all employees are paid correctly.

To ensure compliance under relevant legislation and enterprise agreements, Murdoch University has undertaken a proactive review to verify that all employees, current and former, have received their full entitlements.

As part of this, we identified a number of current and former professional casual employees who were employed at Murdoch University between 2015-2022 had not been classified at the correct level or did not receive their annual step progression (incremental pay increase).

We additionally identified some casual employees who were working in our gym (Murdoch Active) during the same period (2015-2022) had not been paid the correct shift penalties, over-time penalties or minimum engagement hours.

We made a disclosure of these findings to the Fair Work Ombudsman, Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency (TEQSA) and the National Tertiary Education Union (NTEU) and took action to rectify this as soon as possible.

Identified employees were contacted in writing in to notify them, apologise, and rectify the underpayment.

If you worked at Murdoch University between 2015-2022 as a professional casual employee or as a casual employee at Murdoch Active, and have not received a letter from the University, please get in touch by emailing payrollremediation@murdoch.edu.au
