Strengthening cultural ties and student wellbeing
Murdoch University proudly hosted the 7th Kyabje Namkhai Nyingpo Rinpoche for a two-day event on 7-8 December designed to enrich the cultural fabric of our campus and provide culturally sensitive support for our students.
The Rinpoche, a revered Buddhist teacher, offered teachings and blessings across both days, drawing a large gathering of thousands of community members, students and staff to campus.
Conor Murphy, Regional Manager, Murdoch International explained the significance of the event in enhancing cultural ties and supporting the wellbeing of our international students and their integration into university life in Australia.
“Outside of Bhutan, Perth is the number one city for Bhutanese people living abroad with an estimated population of 30,000 individuals,” Mr Murphy said.
This event enhances our cultural ties and emphasises the University’s commitment to giving back to the community.
“It also supports our international students’ wellbeing and provides them with an alternative support mechanism, as well as a platform for spiritual enrichment and community engagement.”
Fostering cultural exchange and supporting our local Bhutanese student community is paramount to creating a nurturing and inclusive environment at Murdoch University and building our relationships internationally.
The event was a collaborative effort with the Perth Kharchu Centre and local Buddhist communities.
