River of Knowledge seminars to showcase Murdoch research to Singapore
Murdoch’s top researchers are sharing their knowledge with the Singapore community through a series of public lectures on health, the environment, food and the Asian political economy.
Renowned freshwater ecologist Professor Peter Davies was the inaugural speaker in the Murdoch University River of Knowledge Public Research Seminar series.
Professor Davies gave an engaging presentation on the need for maintaining the ecological health of our rivers by balancing the competition over water requirements between human-use and the environment.
Pro Vice Chancellor of Transnational Education Professor Peter Waring said the event was very well received.
“This year is Singapore’s Bicentennial year and we were reflecting on the historical importance of the Singapore River to the country’s history and development.
“We have called the initiative 'The River of Knowledge' series to celebrate how the Singapore River has contributed to the trade in ideas and information as well as goods.
“Professor Davies’ lecture on river health was a particularly appropriate start to the series.”
Potential for AI in biosecurity
The next seminar will take place on Tuesday 18 June at 6:30pm, delivered by the Director of the Harry Butler Institute Professor Simon McKirdy.
Professor McKirdy will demonstrate the potential for artificial intelligence and robotics to be trained to quickly and accurately identify invasive species of insects, plants and vertebrates and how future applications of the technologies can be used in agriculture, horticulture and aquaculture.
All are welcome to register for Professor McKirdy’s talk via the dedicated Eventbrite page.
