Following the success of last year’s event, Music at Murdoch returns for a night of music, food and entertainment under the stars on Sunday 18 February from 5pm.

This summer’s theme is ‘Motown’ with Perth Symphony Orchestra playing the favourites in a free concert on the green at Murdoch University’s Bush Court.

Concert-goers can pack a picnic or enjoy delicious fare from food trucks serving up Hungarian and Indian street food, wood fired pizza, snow cones, coffee and ice cream. There will also be a licensed bar cart on-site.

To really make a night of it, dress-up in your best 60s and 70s inspired outfit and bring Motown to life.

Perth Symphony Orchestra has been smashing the stereotype of ‘traditional’ orchestras, and this concert will see them accompany guest singers including Matt Allen and Odette Mercy performing classic Motown hits including Ain’t No Mountain, Superstition, I Can See Clearly and All Night Long.

Supporting acts include rhythm & blues, Afrobeat and funk outfit Bambuseae whose eight band members hail from all corners of the globe. The Australian Pop Academy, a youth organisation that originated in the UK, will belt out rock and pop classics as part of the evening’s entertainment.

The music acts will get you dancing, or at the very least, inspire a bit of feet-tapping to make for a lively atmosphere amidst the eucalyptus trees.

Also on the entertainment line-up is Access Circus featuring Murdoch Alumni Renee Pilkington.

City of Melville Mayor Russell Aubrey said the all-ages event was set to be a highlight on Perth’s summer calendar.

“Music at Murdoch is a wonderful cultural event that gives our community the opportunity to come together and enjoy music in a beautiful location. I really look forward to this magical evening and encourage our residents to join me at this very special event,” Mr Aubrey said.

VIP tickets are available at $50 which includes premium reserved seating and an invitation to a pre-function with drinks and canapés. General admission is free and no tickets are required.

The concert is presented by Murdoch University, with support from the City of Melville, and concert partners AHG and Hawaiian.
