Murdoch University recently hosted an event in partnership with the WA Cricket Association (WACA) focussed on inspiring the next generation of female leaders.

WACA Chief Executive Officer Christina Matthews and Murdoch University Pro Vice Chancellor Professor Catherine Itsiopoulos - both leaders in their fields -spoke at the event.

Ms Matthews is one of only three women in the world to hold the position of CEO of a first-class cricket association. She told the audience about her career progression and successes in the challenging, often male-dominated industry.

As the CEO at the WACA, Christina has redefined how the Association approaches its business after introducing a strong strategic focus, establishing a commitment to community engagement, aligning resourcing with the Association’s strategic objectives and ensuring the successful future for the organisation which included moving commercial cricket from the WACA Ground to Optus Stadium.

Professor Catherine Itsiopoulos Murdoch University’s Pro Vice Chancellor for the College of Science, Health, Engineering and Education and is a recognised leader in Dietetics and has international standing as a leader in Mediterranean diet research.

Professor Kylie Readman attended the event and said that Murdoch has a long-standing commitment to the values of equity and social justice.

“Murdoch is committed to promoting a workplace that helps women feel supported, included and welcome,” Professor Readman said.

“We help build our inclusive culture and diverse workforce by promoting and supporting the trail-blazing women within our University, which in turn lays the path for the next generation of female leaders at Murdoch.”

The event, hosted in the Murdoch University Art Gallery, brought together about 100 people to celebrate the outstanding achievements.
