Murdoch University’s dedicated entrepreneurial hub, Launchpad, has been selected as a finalist in the AFR Higher Education Awards.

The AFR Higher Education Awards is dedicated to recognising the remarkable contributions that tertiary institutions have made to the Australian community over the year.

This year, Launchpad was selected as finalist in the Industry Engagement category.

Created in 2018, Launchpad is an innovative space where students, researchers and industry come together to solve challenges and create opportunities.

Launchpad at Murdoch was the first WA university to have an entrepreneur-in-residence available throughout each semester, supporting innovation across the Murdoch University community.

Over 2019, Launchpad hosted 244 consultations with students, staff and alumni. Over 130 industry related events including hackathons and panel events were also held. Monthly pitch events are also run to help promote innovators’ events to our engaged audience.

Their flagship program Think Big runs across Perth, Singapore and Dubai and supports students to develop their own innovations and business ideas.

Alongside Murdoch University, finalists in the Industry Engagement award category are:

  • Australian Catholic University – Future-Proofing Education
  • Central Queensland University and Flinders University – On-track for the health and safety of Australian train drivers
  • The University of Newcastle – University of Newcastle tackles COVID-19 equipment shortages

Winners will be announced at the Higher Education Awards ceremony on 18 November 2020 at the ICC Sydney.
