A more sustainable way to Open Day

We're doing things a bit differently at Open Day this year and would love everyone to get involved to support some very good causes.

Open Day is one of the biggest days on our calendar. We invite new and prospective students and their families to explore what it's like studying at Murdoch and learn more about the courses and career options ahead of them.

It’s a wonderful showcase of our beautiful campus as well as some of our amazing students, staff and alumni. It’s also a terrific opportunity to demonstrate our commitment to being a sustainable and inclusive community.

In previous years we have given those that attended merchandise at the event, however, much of this has the potential to end up in landfill or is sourced from overseas suppliers requiring packaging and shipping.

This year, as part of our renewed commitment to sustainability, we will be providing attendees with tokens to choose a charity and the money that would have been spent on merchandise will be donated there.

Every attendee will receive a pebble – two if they bring their own bag or drink bottle – to choose a charity they would like to support. For every pebble, a $2 donation will be made on their behalf.

There are three charities to choose from – one aligned with each of the University’s strategic themes.

Equity, Diversity and Inclusion

Kin Disability Advocacy promotes and safeguards the rights and interests of people of culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds who live with a disability, their families and carers in Western Australia.

Sustainability

The Wetlands Centre is a community-based organisation on a mission to connect the community with wetlands through projects, programs and events which increase awareness, understanding, and commitment to their conservation and wise use.

First Nations

GIVIT is a not-for-profit organisation that assists people experiencing hardship to get the essential items they need, when they need them. Their dedicated First Nations support provides the essential items needed to change individuals’ health and wellbeing outcomes.

We welcome everyone to take part in this initiative while exploring our campus, enjoying some amazing live demonstrations and getting a taste of what life is like at Murdoch University.

Join us and immerse yourself in campus life for a day on Saturday, 23 March.
